The value of a Colonial appointment depends upon so many eirenostauers beakles the salary that the Secretary of State atte cannot judge what would be acceptable to un officer. Appicanta for promotion should therefore, in their own interests, state as pareigos as possible what they desire, either specifying certain appointments, or at least mentioning the Colonies to which they would or would wer he willing to go, and the amount of salary which they think that they may reasonably expect.
